Tombstone reads “Doyenne de l’humanité” (“Oldest lady of humanity”).

It is at the bottom of Driveway D that one
can find the tomb of Jeanne Calment (1875-1997), who currently holds the record for human
longevity legally proven (by act of civil status), and who lived to the age of 122 years 5 months 14 days.
Many stories we know about her, because it was highly publicized that she knew Van
Gogh (he was very dirty) and 20 presidents, that she was already retired during the Second World War, that she was sold at the age
of 90 her home “for life” by her
lawyer (who obviously profited not), and that she smoked one cigarette every day until her death …
It is also recalled that at the age of 121
years we had her record a record
(“Mistress of Time”) in order to finance the minibus to the nursing home where she lived. Many then criticized media-hype of which
she was said the victim. In
reality, it seems that she loved to play with journalists.
