Dear Tom & Colleagues:
Please be aware that aging research “messaging” documentaries (very good ones) have already been produced & are in active distribution now.
Two of them are :
1. The recent, professionally done “Healthspan Initiative” produced by the Alliance for Aging Research with the support of the “LDIC”
(Longevity Dividend Initiative Consortium). LDIC is the 4 1/2 Y.O. non-profit organization which AGE started in June 2010. They sport the membership of all of the larger 501(c)(3) aging research organizations ( including : AGE, GSA, EMF, Buck, AFAR, MAYO, GLENN Foundation & NIA). SENS-F , GHF, Methuselah Foundation & other smaller non-profits are not yet LDIC members.
The 15-minute Alliance film can be accessed at their Healthspan Campaign web site.
A major problem of the aging research community is not enough organizations but,the severe lack of coordination between the too- many that we already have.
NOTE: One of the main purposes of LDIC member organizations is fund raising and research grant support.
Tom : while your desire to develop a professional documentary is admirable, I would suggest that any such move be coordinated with organizations already doing that work.
David Sinclair, for example, put out an excellent documentary on aging with his TED-X Sydney talk. One can easily access his 16-minute video by searching TED.
I hope this background helps to clarify the messaging- fund raising issues in our not-very-organized-for-success aging research community.
