Wouldn’t NAD be better than Nicotinamide Riboside
from chromadex, which is what this product contains?
Although the LEF product that I am taking contains nicotinamine
riboside (NR) as a registered trademarked product NIAGEN produced by
the Chromadex company, I doubt that the Elysium Health product will
contain NIAGEN. Nicotinamide is produced in the human body on the
path to making NAD and is not patentable as a chemical. Although a
use patent could be obtained for some disease or dysfunction defined
by the FDA, that is not what Elysium Health is promoting it for.
There are many possible sources of NR and we (at least I) do not
even know for sure that it is within the Elysium Health product. The
only reason I have waited for NR to become available from some US
supplement supplier is because it takes a lot of time effort and
capital to import a supply from China or elsewhere, and no chemical
supplier in the US or Canada would sell me any as an individual,
particularly not for personal use. Several other such chemicals, I
did not wait for, but this one I decided to do so, partly because of
the lack of clear research for benefits greater than NAD or simply
taking more niacin.
As for taking NAD directly, this had been tried many ways for
decades and it appears that it does not survived digestion (and is
no better that taking nicotinamide) when orally ingested. Even used
sublingually its benefit is has no clear evidence (I have also taken
sublingual NADH for many, many years).
Sorry but I don’t have time to provide references, but I am sure you
can find them by searching and the LERDIT development wiki page that
I made public and to which I gave the link in another reply will
likely have some of this information on it.
