What is sometimes done when there is concern over piracy is to put together a pool of selected and trusted licensees who are also paying for updates. This is often done for proprietary information in industry, where access to a book or database is granted by contract on a yearly or even a quarterly basis, with a nondisclosure agreement. I’ve seen prices range from a few hundred dollars per year per access license to several thousand dollars. Institutions and some individuals of means might be wiling to pay for your work product on this basis.
