A humorous message at Easter… — Steve Coles
Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from
that even God’s omniscience and omnipotence did not extend to His own
According to Genesis, after creating Heaven and Earth, God chose
to create Adam
and Eve (in His image).
And the first thing He said was ‘DON’T!’
‘Don’t what?’ Adam asked.
‘Don’t eat the forbidden fruit,’ God commanded.
‘Forbidden fruit? Do we even have forbidden fruit? Eve, do we
have any forbidden fruit?’
‘No Way !’
‘Do NOT eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge!’ instructed God.
‘Because I am your Father and I said so!’ God replied, wondering why
He hadn’t stopped
creation after making mice, rats, and other assorted creatures.
A few minutes later, God saw His children eating a forbidden apple.
He was really upset!
‘Didn’t I specifically prohibit you from eating from the Tree of
Knowledge?’ God asked.
‘Uh huh,’ Adam replied.
‘Then why did you?’ asked God, the Father.
‘It was Eve, she made me,’ Adam said.
‘The serpent tempted me,’ said Eve.
Having had it with both of them, God’s punishment was that Adam and
be compelled to have children of their own with the pain of
childbirth for the woman.
They were evicted from the Garden of Eden. He subsequently
posted an Archangel
with a flashing and flaming sword at the Eastern Gate lest they
attempt to sneak back
into the Garden and eat from the second tree, thereby gaining
immortal life, and so
become like Us! (Note the curious plural pronoun, the only time that
God spoke of
Himself like that in the Bible).
Thus, the pattern was set, and it has not changed so
